Position Title:

Adjunct Instructor for Fire Services

Job Overview:

This role involves delivering instruction for courses related to firefighting. The curriculum may encompass various certification programs, including Firefighter I and II.

Qualifications and Skills:
  • The instructor must possess expertise in the subject area and demonstrate effective teaching strategies suitable for diverse learners.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to inspire students are essential. The candidate should exhibit self-motivation and the capability to operate with minimal supervision. Proficiency in the following areas is required:
    1. Written and verbal communication
    2. Problem-solving abilities
    3. Critical thinking skills
    4. Computer literacy, including familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite and online learning platforms.
  • The candidate should be adept at:
    1. Engaging with a diverse student population.
    2. Employing varied teaching methodologies to enhance student comprehension.
    3. Recognizing and addressing the unique needs of community college students.
    4. Organizing and delivering course material effectively, including lesson planning and activity design.
    5. Following guidelines and meeting established deadlines.
    6. Assessing student performance fairly and providing constructive feedback.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Instruct and evaluate students in the Fire Training Program in accordance with state educational standards.
  • Assist in the preparation and maintenance of training equipment and materials.
  • Oversee practical skills assessments during state evaluations at the conclusion of each term.

Minimum Education and Experience:
  • Completion of specialized training beyond high school, ideally up to one year.
  • Current employment as a Firefighter with a minimum of five years of experience in a fire department, along with three years of teaching experience, including lesson planning and assessment. Subject Matter Experts in the Fire Service are also encouraged to apply.
