Job Summary:
The Facilities Maintenance Technician is responsible for the upkeep of all utility systems across KCTCS campus locations. Collaborating closely with the Maintenance and Operations Supervisor, this role involves troubleshooting and executing preventative maintenance on electrical systems, motor controls, safety circuits, steam plants, and HVAC systems, utilizing specialized tools and expertise.
Key Responsibilities:
- Troubleshoot utility systems, including electrical circuits, motor controls, and HVAC and steam plant systems as necessary
- Conduct skilled maintenance tasks related to HVAC monitoring and upkeep
- Perform advanced electrical work, such as installing receptacles, switches, breakers, ballasts, and replacing light fixtures
- Execute advanced plumbing tasks, including waterline repairs, valve servicing, and drain line maintenance
- Carry out advanced carpentry duties, such as drywall installation, painting, door repairs, and the installation of partitions and flooring
- Perform minor repairs and maintenance on equipment like tractors and vehicles
- Set up and dismantle furniture for special events
- Manage building access, including opening and securing facilities as scheduled
- Oversee snow removal during winter months and apply de-icing materials on walkways
- Be available for emergency response as required or assigned
- Complete additional tasks as directed by the Maintenance and Operations Supervisor and Dean of Operations
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED with three years of relevant experience, or equivalent
Preferred Qualifications:
- Special licensing may be required for operating certain equipment (e.g., forklift)
- Physical capability to lift heavy items, such as office furniture and equipment
- Strong communication skills for effective interaction with staff and students
- Commitment to the mission of a comprehensive community and technical college and dedication to personalized maintenance services
