Position SummarySylvan Learning stands as a premier provider of tutoring services for students across various ages, grades, and skill levels. Our Sylvan @ Schools initiative extends our renowned educational programs directly to school environments. This collaboration with educational institutions offers a unique opportunity to deliver tailored, small group instruction that complements the larger classroom experience.
As a Sylvan @ Schools tutor, you will create a positive and personalized learning atmosphere for students by utilizing our established program materials. Tutors are assigned to convenient school locations within the Greater Los Angeles area, providing support to K-12 students in subjects such as reading and mathematics.
Key Responsibilities- Implement guided, structured curriculum and lesson support for groups of up to 8 students on local school campuses.
- Establish and maintain an effective learning environment using Sylvan's proven methodologies.
- Engage and motivate students with resources available from our on-site educational materials.
- Collaborate with program coordinators and directors to ensure seamless execution of tutoring programs.
- Participate in online training sessions and shadowing opportunities provided by Sylvan.
- Hourly rate: $24 – $26
- Training compensation: $18/hour
- Tutors can expect to work between 1.5 to 3 hours per day, 3 to 4 days per week, assigned to a specific school.
- Tutoring sessions will take place between 12:30 PM and 5:00 PM, subject to the school's schedule. Tutors are required to arrive 30 minutes prior to their sessions for setup.
- Associate's degree or completion of 2 years towards a 4-year degree is required.
- Prior experience in teaching or tutoring is preferred.
- Strong organizational and time management skills are essential.
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team.
- Reliable transportation is necessary.
- Must provide TB clearance and complete a Live Scan background check.
This position reports to the Senior Director, Director of Education, or Associate Director.
