Our Sylvan @ Schools initiative extends our exceptional programs directly to educational institutions, creating unique opportunities for students to receive tailored, small group instruction that is often absent in larger classroom environments.
As a Sylvan @ Schools tutor, you will play a vital role in creating a supportive and engaging learning atmosphere by utilizing our specialized program materials. Tutors are assigned to local school sites that are convenient for them, serving various districts in the Greater Los Angeles area. Our tutors support K-12 students in subjects such as reading and mathematics.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver structured, scripted lessons and support to groups of up to 8 students on school campuses.
- Establish and maintain an effective learning environment using Sylvan's proven methodologies.
- Inspire students with resources from our on-site educational tools.
- Collaborate with educational coordinators and directors to ensure seamless program delivery.
- Participate in online training sessions and shadowing opportunities provided by Sylvan.
Compensation and Work Schedule
- Hourly wage: $24 – $26
- Training compensation: $18/hour
- Tutors typically work between 1.5 to 3 hours per day, 3 to 4 days a week, assigned to a specific school.
- Sessions are scheduled between 12:30 PM and 5:00 PM, varying according to school needs and schedules. Tutors are expected to arrive 30 minutes prior to their sessions for setup.
Qualifications
- Associate's degree or completion of 2 years towards a 4-year degree is required.
- Prior experience in teaching or tutoring is preferred.
- Strong organizational and time management abilities are essential.
- Capability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team.
- Reliable transportation is necessary.
- Must provide TB clearance and complete a Live Scan background check.
Reporting Structure
This position reports to the Senior Director, Director of Education, or Associate Director.
