Position Overview
Sylvan @ Schools is a prominent provider of tutoring services for students across various ages, grades, and skill levels. Our partnerships with schools allow us to bring our exceptional programs directly to students, offering them a tailored, small group learning experience that is often absent in larger classroom settings.
Role of the Tutor
Tutors at Sylvan @ Schools are responsible for creating a supportive and engaging learning environment. They utilize Sylvan's educational materials to guide students in their learning journey. Tutors are assigned to various school locations within the Greater Los Angeles area, providing assistance to students from kindergarten through 12th grade in subjects such as reading and mathematics.
Key Responsibilities
- Implement guided, structured curriculum and provide lesson support to groups of up to 8 students at local school campuses.
- Establish and maintain an effective learning environment using Sylvan's proven educational programs.
- Encourage student engagement with resources available from our on-site educational materials.
- Collaborate with educational coordinators and directors to ensure seamless program delivery.
- Participate in online training sessions and shadowing opportunities provided by Sylvan.
Compensation and Work Schedule
- Hourly wage: $24 – $26
- Training compensation: $18/hour
- Tutors typically work between 1.5 to 3 hours per day, 3 to 4 days per week, assigned to a specific school.
- Sessions are scheduled between 12:30 PM and 5:00 PM, varying according to school needs and schedules. Tutors are expected to arrive 30 minutes prior to their sessions for setup.
Qualifications
- Associate's degree or completion of 2 years towards a 4-year degree is required.
- Prior experience in teaching or tutoring is preferred.
- Strong organizational and time management abilities are essential.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team is necessary.
- Reliable transportation is required.
- Must provide TB clearance and complete a Live Scan background check.
Reporting Structure
This position reports to the Senior Director, Director of Education, or Associate Director.
