Job Overview

Position: Project Manager, Civil Engineering

Work Arrangement: Hybrid model with in-office work Monday to Wednesday and remote work on Thursday and Friday. Additionally, a M-F 4/9 schedule is available with half days on Friday.

Position Summary

The Project Manager for Civil Engineering will oversee the daily management of multiple civil engineering initiatives. This role involves supervising project execution, guiding the design process, and collaborating with the design team. You will have the chance to enhance your portfolio by engaging in high-profile and intricate projects. Alongside the Director, you will develop strategies aimed at achieving technical excellence, fostering engagement, and promoting growth. The Civil Engineering division focuses on Site/Civil Land Development Engineering projects across various sectors, including Mixed-Use, Healthcare, Higher Education, and Residential. Our services encompass grading, drainage, erosion control, utilities, storm-water management, site planning, and permitting for development projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work closely with the Studio Leader, clients, and stakeholders to establish project scope, objectives, deliverables, resources, budget, and timelines. Assist in staff development and identify training needs.
  • Create and maintain project schedules.
  • Ensure projects meet profitability targets set by the Studio Leader while tracking utilization rates and labor summaries.
  • Manage scope and pricing adjustments with clients and communicate updates to the Studio Leader.
  • Ensure compliance with local jurisdictional requirements throughout all project phases.
  • Engage with clients, other discipline managers, and local, state, and federal review personnel.
  • Maintain clear and consistent communication with clients and team members.
  • Coordinate project drawings with Architects and other consultants.
  • Oversee the quality of work, client service, staff utilization, office reputation, contract management, and project profitability.
  • Support adherence to Quality Control/Quality Assurance policies.
  • Assist in preparing project proposals and responding to RFPs, while actively participating in business development as directed by the Studio Leader.
  • Seek and communicate project opportunities.
  • Represent the firm at various public and private events.
  • Supervise construction observation and administration tasks, including meetings, site visits, responses to RFIs, and review of shop drawings, while developing solutions for field issues.
  • Conduct periodic site visits to ensure compliance with design documents, building codes, and safety regulations.
  • Address complaints, resolve disputes, and negotiate effectively with stakeholders.
  • Actively participate as a team member, which may include training, serving on special committees, or engaging with external organizations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering is required.
  • A minimum of 8 years of experience in the civil engineering field, specifically in civil site design and engineering.
  • Must hold a Professional Engineer license.
  • Extensive knowledge of civil engineering principles, theories, and methods essential for planning, designing, and executing site and land development projects, including grading, erosion control, environmental considerations, storm-water management, and roadway planning.
  • Thorough understanding of local, state, and federal regulations and professional standards.
  • Advanced familiarity with A/E/C industry terminology and procedures.
  • Proficient in engineering design software and plan production tools.
  • Experience with Bluebeam and Civil 3D is preferred.
  • Valid Driver's License is required.

Skills and Competencies

  • Exceptional verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Advanced proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and other relevant software used in civil engineering.
  • Adept at identifying complex problems, analyzing related information, and implementing effective solutions.
  • Specialized experience in storm-water management or other related civil engineering fields is advantageous.

Travel Expectations

  • Occasional travel to other office locations may be required, typically within a 25-50 mile radius, with potential overnight stays.
