Role Summary
The Project Manager in Civil Engineering will oversee the daily management of various civil engineering initiatives. You will lead project execution, supervise the design phases, and collaborate closely with the design team. This role offers the chance to enhance your portfolio by engaging in high-profile and intricate projects. Additionally, you will work alongside the Director to formulate strategies aimed at technical excellence, engagement, and growth. The Civil Engineering division focuses on Site/Civil Land Development Engineering across multiple sectors, including Mixed-Use, Healthcare, Higher Education, and Residential. Our responsibilities encompass grading, drainage, erosion control, utilities, storm-water management, site planning, and permitting for development projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with the Studio Leader, clients, and stakeholders to establish project scope, objectives, deliverables, resources, budget, and timelines. Support the Studio Leader in staff development and training identification.
- Create and manage project schedules effectively.
- Ensure project profitability as set by the Studio Leader, while monitoring utilization rates and labor summaries.
- Coordinate scope and pricing adjustments with clients and relay information to the Studio Leader.
- Adhere to local jurisdictional requirements throughout all project phases.
- Engage with clients, discipline managers, and local, state, and federal review personnel.
- Maintain clear and consistent communication with clients and team members.
- Align drawings with Architects and other consultants.
- Oversee the quality of work, client service, staff utilization, office reputation, contract management, and project profitability.
- Assist in upholding Quality Control/Quality Assurance standards.
- Contribute to project proposal preparations, responses to RFPs, and participate in business development as directed by the Studio Leader.
- Actively seek and communicate project opportunities.
- Represent the firm at various public and private events.
- Supervise Construction Observation and Administration tasks, including meetings, site visits, RFIs, and shop drawing reviews, while developing solutions for field challenges.
- Conduct periodic site visits to ensure compliance with design documents, building codes, and safety regulations.
- Address complaints, resolve disputes, and negotiate effectively.
- Engage as an active team member, which may include training, special committees, or external organizations.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering is required.
- A minimum of 8 years of experience in the civil engineering sector, particularly in civil site design and engineering.
- Must hold a Professional Engineer license.
- In-depth knowledge of civil engineering principles, theories, and methods necessary for planning, designing, and executing site and land development projects.
- Familiarity with local, state, and federal regulations and professional standards.
- Comprehensive understanding of A/E/C industry terminology and practices.
- Proficient in engineering design software and plan production tools.
- Experience with Bluebeam and Civil 3D is preferred.
- A valid Driver's License is required.
Skills and Competencies
- Exceptional verbal and written communication abilities.
- Advanced proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and other relevant software in the civil engineering field.
- Adept at identifying complex issues and evaluating options to implement effective solutions.
- Experience in storm-water management or related Site Civil Engineering specialties is advantageous.
Travel Expectations
- Occasional travel to other office locations may be required, typically within a 25-50 mile radius, with potential overnight stays.
