As a Family Services Counselor, you will play a pivotal role in assisting families facing various challenges. Your primary responsibility will be to provide counseling services to children and families involved in the justice system, aiming to reduce instances of child abuse and neglect.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct psychosocial evaluations and deliver trauma-informed cognitive behavioral therapy to families impacted by domestic violence and environmental trauma.
  • Provide in-home support and behavioral services to families, assisting agency social workers with program-related tasks.
  • Offer crisis intervention services for clients experiencing acute mental health crises or emotional distress.
  • Support and guide clients and their families during difficult times.
  • Facilitate problem-solving in individual sessions to help clients address challenges such as domestic violence, trauma, anger management, and grief counseling.
  • Utilize various therapeutic modalities, including cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) and dialectical behavior therapy (DBT).
  • Implement intensive in-home counseling to stabilize children and prepare them for reunification with their parents or caretakers.
  • Conduct weekly face-to-face contact with families to foster engagement and support.
  • Complete comprehensive family assessments to identify strengths and weaknesses within the family unit.
  • Provide substance abuse treatment and assist clients in developing coping skills and achieving treatment goals.
  • Maintain detailed case files, logs, and weekly progress reports for each assigned family.
  • Help families access community resources to meet their needs, including food, housing, and education.

Qualifications:

Applicants must possess a Doctoral Degree in the Human Services field and hold a valid license as one of the following: Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), or Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT). Additionally, candidates should have a Provisional License or Associate License in Georgia, such as Associate Marriage and Family Therapist (LAMFT) or Associate Professional Counselor (LAPC).

Experience in human services, particularly working with children or adults, is required. A Child Development Associate certificate (CDA) is preferred.

Educational Background:

A Bachelor's degree in a Human Services field such as psychology, social work, behavioral sciences, or counseling is required.

Skills Required:

  • Strong clinical, crisis management, and critical thinking skills.
  • Proficient in professional verbal and written communication.
  • Behavioral intervention and crisis intervention skills are essential.
  • Must possess a valid Georgia Driver's License with a clean driving history.
  • Reliable transportation and professional liability insurance are mandatory.
