ROLE OF THE SCHOOL COUNSELOR

School Counselors at AIS are visionary professionals who are passionate about supporting students in a diverse environment. They are dedicated to implementing ASCA and ISCA standards while focusing on the holistic development of each student—socially, emotionally, and academically.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Contribute positively to the collaborative culture of the School Counseling Team and the broader educational community.
  • Design and implement counseling experiences that cater to the unique needs of each student, demonstrating a strong commitment to their best interests.
  • Maintain accurate records of counseling services provided.
  • Ensure timely communication and follow-up with all stakeholders involved in a student's well-being.
  • Collaborate effectively with the Head of School Counseling and Upper School Leadership Team.
  • Deliver comprehensive counseling services and programs to students in grades 9-12.
  • Facilitate counseling initiatives tailored to each grade level.
  • Adhere to established policies regarding mandated reporting and mental health concerns.
  • Provide effective social, emotional, and academic support to students.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • A Master's degree in counseling, preferably with a focus on school counseling.
  • A minimum of 3-5 years of experience in the counseling field, including at least 2 years as a school counselor in an international or independent school setting.
  • Demonstrated commitment to equitable and inclusive practices in counseling.
  • A passion for working with adolescents, along with a flexible approach and dedication to lifelong learning.
  • Preferred candidates will be bilingual, with proficiency in English, Spanish, German, French, or Chinese.
  • Experience in international and/or PYP educational environments is advantageous.
