The City of Elgin is in search of two enthusiastic and skilled bilingual Community Engagement Coordinators to enhance our outreach initiatives. This position is vital for improving our organization’s connection with diverse populations. The ideal candidate will be fluent in both English and Spanish, showcasing outstanding communication abilities and a commitment to fostering relationships across various cultural communities.

GENERAL DEFINITION AND CONDITIONS OF WORK

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Community Outreach: Cultivate and sustain partnerships with community stakeholders, including multicultural organizations, through effective communication and outreach strategies. Organize and implement community engagement events and programs to boost participation.
  2. Translation Services: Deliver precise translation and interpretation between English and Spanish, ensuring clarity and preserving the original message's integrity.
  3. Content Development: Create captivating written and visual materials in both English and Spanish for various channels, including social media, websites, newsletters, and press releases.
  4. Visual Content Production: Generate high-quality visual content, including photography and videos in both languages, ensuring alignment with the organization's messaging.
  5. Media Relations: Support media relations activities by preparing bilingual press materials, coordinating interviews, and addressing media inquiries as necessary.
  6. Cultural Awareness: Offer cultural insights to ensure communications are appropriate and resonate with diverse audiences.
  7. Additional duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite, including Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, etc.
  • Experience in photography, video production, graphic design, and multimedia content creation.
  • Familiarity with social media platforms, analytics tools, and Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.
  • Demonstrated creativity and self-direction while collaborating with diverse groups and agencies.
  • Effective public speaking and presentation skills.
