Position Overview
Under the guidance of a Police Sergeant, the Campus Safety Officer (CSO) occupies a vital role in maintaining a secure environment. This position entails patrolling the campus, managing parking regulations, providing escort services, and functioning as a dispatcher within the Public Safety Department's Communications Center.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct regular patrols of the campus on foot or in a vehicle, ensuring a visible security presence.
- Enforce parking regulations and assist with foot and mobile escorts to enhance safety.
- Perform daily opening and closing procedures for campus facilities.
- Serve as a dispatcher in the Public Safety Department, managing communications and information flow.
- Maintain radio contact with law enforcement, assigning tasks based on priority and personnel availability.
- Respond to routine inquiries and emergency calls, providing assistance as needed.
- Oversee access control systems, alarm systems, and CCTV operations.
- Engage in Community Policing initiatives, offering support and resources to the Babson College community.
- Participate in and facilitate Crime Prevention programs.
- Assist in training new Public Safety personnel as required.
- Take on additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications
- High School diploma or GED.
- 1-3 years of experience in a service-oriented role.
- Compliance with OSHA regulations, including Hepatitis B vaccination.
- Familiarity with modern Public Safety practices, including patrol, dispatching, and emergency response.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to assess situations and determine appropriate actions.
- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
- Proficient in maintaining radio communications and managing inquiries from the community.
- Ability to maintain accurate records, both paper and electronic.
- Commitment to providing security services in a diverse community.
- Knowledge of problem-solving techniques and familiarity with various departmental procedures.
- Recommended experience in security, health and safety, or emergency medical services.
- Willingness to embrace change and adapt to new challenges.
Work Environment
Flexibility in work hours and schedules is essential, including potential overtime. Duties may require both virtual and in-person engagement for training and community activities as directed by management.
Physical stamina is necessary, including regular walking and the ability to travel on and off campus.
A valid U.S. Driver's License is required, along with a satisfactory driving record and completion of the College's vehicle training program.
All staff must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19, with proof of vaccination required upon hire.
Additional Skills
Ideal candidates will possess good mental and physical health. Previous experience in security or dispatching, particularly in an educational setting, is preferred but not mandatory.
