Job Summary

The Associate Director, Belonging and Inclusion for Cultural Life is a key role in fostering a culture of belonging, identity exploration, and inclusive community building for Babson College's diverse student population. This position is responsible for creating and implementing programs that center Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (DEIB), mentoring and advising students, cultural clubs, and student leaders to promote diversity on campus, and partnering with other departments to deepen the integration of DEIB principles.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee and advise student-led multicultural clubs and organizations, develop programs, and support the coordination of campus-wide events that celebrate diversity, inclusion, and belonging.
  • Facilitate student-facing training that strengthens diversity and reinforces DEIB competencies, in partnership with the Associate Director, Belonging and Inclusion for Spiritual Life.
  • Develop, plan, and execute regular community gatherings, including Sunday Suppers, Community Conversations, and Peace Circles, that integrate holistic programming centered on inclusion, diversity, wellbeing, and social impact.
  • Co-chair the Multicultural and Multifaith Leadership Council, consisting of identity-based student groups, to guide and offer support of program initiatives, and promote dialogue on campus climate related to diversity, equity, and inclusion success and challenges.
  • Serve as a key member of the planning and administration teams of annual campus-wide events that promote and celebrate diversity, multiculturalism, and inclusion.
  • Organize and coordinate welcome receptions and graduation send-offs for several groups, and partner with the Assistant Director, Belonging and Inclusion for LGBTQ+ Life to facilitate Lavender Graduation.
  • Manage funding request processes through the Student Government Association and set budgets for multicultural groups.
  • Oversee the management of the Diversity Suite, including space reservation requests, upkeep, and programmatic planning, in partnership with the Administrative Coordinator for Belonging and Inclusion.
  • Provide advice and counsel to students on personal, academic, and community matters, and refer as necessary.
Requirements
  • Master's degree required.
  • At least 6-8 years of related experience, including demonstrated experience working with multiple diverse populations and developing innovative programs for underrepresented populations.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience managing staff and a budget.
  • Knowledge of student development theory, program development, management, and evaluation.
  • Knowledge of student group advisement and organizational development, student and staff training development, student leadership program development, and student development theory.
  • Excellent leadership, diplomacy, and team management skills, with the ability to engage others through a participative process, while serving as a key decision maker.
  • Demonstrated strengths in public speaking and presenting, excellent interpersonal and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of budget management.
  • Demonstrated excellence in program development, management, assessment, and evaluation.
  • Knowledge of current trends in student diversity and inclusion, particularly regarding higher education.
  • Ability to establish and maintain collaborative relationships with faculty, administration, staff, parents, and alumni.
  • Ability to create an environment where direct reports have the freedom and security to take initiative, deal with complexities with resilience, resourcefulness, and optimism, and appreciate open-mindedness, creativity, and agility in thought and tactics.
  • Ability and willingness to solve problems independently, look for opportunities to take on responsibility, take thoughtful risks, and effectively act on new and ongoing initiatives, objectives, and solutions to gain sought-after results.
  • Ability to anticipate and effectively handle change, demonstrate willingness to try new skills and challenging tasks, and be flexible in changing conditions.
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint).
