Job Title: Student Success Advisor

The Student Success Advisor plays a vital role in supporting the academic and personal growth of undergraduate students at Babson College. This position requires a holistic approach to advising, empowering students to achieve their goals and overcome challenges.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Advise students on course selection and registration, developing personalized success plans to ensure academic progress.
  • Monitor student progress, analyzing data and communicating with students regarding registration, academic policies, grades, and graduation.
  • Collaborate with the Registrar to certify undergraduate degrees, conducting degree audits and ensuring accurate records.
  • Provide referrals and support for students facing personal challenges, such as mental health issues, substance abuse, or family concerns.
  • Meet with students to discuss concerns regarding grades, faculty, and academic performance, making referrals as needed.
  • Track and review students who are over- or under-enrolled in courses, ensuring timely interventions.
  • Advise students on course options while on Education Abroad experiences, promoting cultural immersion and academic growth.
  • Approve individual course withdrawal forms, ensuring students understand academic policies and procedures.
  • Educate students on academic policies and procedures, including the Petition for Exception process.
  • Approve and process advanced credit from high school, partnering with the Director of Undergraduate Administration.
  • Collaborate with department leadership to approve off-campus courses, ensuring academic rigor and relevance.
  • Review requests for exam excuses, following College policy and issuing approvals or denials as needed.
  • Refer students to the Center for Career Development for internship and career planning, promoting professional growth.
Case Management:
  • Review requests for leaves of absence, advising students on non-medical and voluntary withdrawals from the College.
  • Monitor academic progress of students on academic probation and those returning from academic suspension.
  • Work closely with departmental leadership and the AVP of Student Success regarding students of concern.
  • Act as a resource for students involved in the College community standards process.
  • Support all students, creating programming and student development opportunities as needed.
  • Work closely with campus partners to address student issues and concerns.
  • Document student meetings and notes in our student information system.
Additional Responsibilities:
  • Participate in College-wide committees as designated by the Director, Student Advising & Success.
  • Support the efforts of other offices by participating in alumni, admission, undergraduate program, wellness and prevention, learner success, and career development events.
  • Assume additional responsibilities as required.

This role requires a Master's Degree in Student Personnel Administration, Higher Education, Counseling, or a related field, with a minimum of 3-5 years of experience working with students in an advising capacity. The ideal candidate will demonstrate sensitivity to and empathy with the developmental needs of today's college students, with strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills. The ability to work with ethnically, culturally, and socially diverse students, staff, and faculty is essential. The successful candidate will be flexible and willing to assume new tasks and special projects, with a strong commitment to supporting student success and academic excellence at Babson College.
