Position Overview:
The Clinical Laboratory Specialist is responsible for conducting maintenance, calibration, and quality assurance in diverse clinical laboratory environments. This role involves analyzing blood and various bodily fluids, as well as reviewing and interpreting data from calibration, quality assurance, and patient assessments. Testing responsibilities will encompass both 'waived' and 'moderately complex' categories.

Professional interaction with healthcare providers, patients, and colleagues is essential, with a focus on delivering exceptional customer service and satisfaction.

This position may include mentoring students and new personnel, along with managing supplies and inventory effectively.

For those in a Team Lead capacity, responsibilities extend to evaluating quality control data, calibration results, proficiency testing, and maintaining instrument records within their designated department.


Required Qualifications:
- Associate's Degree in clinical laboratory science from an accredited institution or equivalent experience

- Licensure as a Clinical Laboratory Technician in Montana

- For Team Leads, a minimum of two years' experience as a laboratory scientist or technician

Preferred Qualifications:
- Certification as a Medical Laboratory Technologist or Technician (ASCP)

Key Responsibilities:
- Calibrate and operate automated laboratory equipment

- Conduct manual testing in accordance with established protocols

- Enter, validate, and approve results while managing data in the Laboratory Information System

- Monitor results, quality control, and instrument conditions, addressing any anomalies or deviations

- Troubleshoot and repair laboratory instruments, assist in developing new procedures, and aid in training and orientation

- Support patient care as required

- For Team Leads, calibrate and operate instruments and perform manual testing as per written protocols. Enter results and data into the Laboratory Information System.

- Capable of thriving in a fast-paced and high-pressure environment

- Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills

- Exercises discretion, sensitivity, and maintains confidentiality

- Proficient in computer applications, including MS Office, EMR, and standard office equipment

- Ability to analyze, organize, and prioritize tasks while meeting multiple deadlines

- Self-motivated, completing assignments accurately and thoroughly with minimal supervision

- Advanced mathematical skills; capable of collecting, analyzing, interpreting, and presenting complex data.
