Position Overview: The State Office of Risk Management (SORM) is seeking a skilled Accountant to take on the responsibility of preparing comprehensive financial statements, records, and reports. Become an integral part of our dedicated accounting team, committed to enhancing the operations of the Financial Management department.

As a pivotal provider of workers' compensation services for various state entities, your role will encompass reconciling claims fund activities, analyzing fund balances, and contributing to essential legislative documentation.

Our department thrives on the expertise of self-driven professionals who are passionate about governmental accounting. We are looking for an individual who shares this commitment and will collaborate closely with the Chief Financial Officer to ensure exceptional service delivery.

Key Responsibilities:

Accountant II:

  • Assist with daily financial production and documentation
  • Prepare expenditure and cash flow reports
  • Respond to inquiries via phone and email
  • Process refunds and manage accounts payable entries
  • Research and reconcile revenue transactions
  • Maintain detailed financial records
  • Recommend enhancements to accounting systems
  • Verify data accuracy within financial systems
  • Provide customer service while ensuring confidentiality

Accountant III: All responsibilities of Accountant II, PLUS:

  • Analyze and support the preparation of state-required legislative reports

Accountant IV: All responsibilities of Accountant III, PLUS:

  • Analyze and submit state-required legislative reports

Minimum Qualifications:

Accountant II:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Two or more years of full-time accounting experience
  • Understanding of accounting principles and practices
  • Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel
  • Strong communication and decision-making skills
  • Able to work effectively in a team environment

Accountant III: Enhanced qualifications from Accountant II:

  • One additional year of accounting experience
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel
  • Experience in generating legislative reports

Accountant IV: Advanced qualifications from Accountant III:

  • One additional year of accounting experience
  • Expertise in fiscal programs and financial regulations

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Graduation from an accredited college or university
  • Experience with the Uniform Statewide Accounting System (USAS)
