Position Overview:
The Clinical Laboratory Scientist plays a crucial role in the healthcare team by utilizing both manual and automated methods to evaluate patient samples, delivering vital clinical data that aids healthcare professionals in diagnosing and treating patients.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Conducts laboratory tests on patient specimens in accordance with established protocols, ensuring proficiency across all designated areas.
2. Analyzes and records data to generate patient laboratory reports, promptly communicating critical findings in line with laboratory standards.
3. Ensures the proper functioning of laboratory equipment by performing regular maintenance and documentation as required.
4. Implements quality control and quality assurance measures to guarantee accurate test results, managing reagent inventory effectively.
5. Identifies and addresses any issues that arise during testing, maintaining clear communication with colleagues and clients to facilitate effective follow-up.
6. Provides training and guidance to new staff, interns, and students, ensuring compliance with accreditation documentation requirements.
7. Adheres to all compliance regulations relevant to the position.
8. Undertakes additional responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field.
Experience: Entry-level to six months of experience preferred.
Preferred: Completion of a Medical Technology Program, prior laboratory experience, and certification from the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) or eligibility for certification.
Working Conditions:
Manual dexterity and significant motor coordination are essential for this role. The position may involve some occupational hazards and requires medium to heavy physical effort, including the ability to lift up to 35 lbs.
Physical exposure may include various environmental factors typical in a laboratory setting.
