About The Talent Specialist Role

New York Cares is in search of a Talent Specialist to ensure the seamless execution of various administrative functions. This role will assist in payroll processing, manage employee benefits, and collaborate with other departments on recruitment, onboarding, and offboarding initiatives. The Specialist will also conduct research on best practices and provide insights for process enhancements. Reporting to the Director of Talent, this position is pivotal in supporting the overall talent management strategy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Facilitate payroll operations, including data processing, liaising with payroll services, and overseeing check verification and distribution.
  • Act as the main contact for benefits administration, addressing staff needs, evaluating benefits cost-effectiveness, and creating resources such as quick reference guides.
  • Design and implement training sessions on Talent policies, procedures, and benefits.
  • Coordinate recruitment activities in partnership with department leaders, which includes drafting job descriptions, advertising vacancies, reviewing applications, scheduling interviews, conducting reference checks, and preparing offer letters.
  • Conduct industry research to identify best practices in Talent management and propose recommendations for the integration of effective strategies, such as compensation surveys.
  • Identify and implement operational enhancements to optimize Talent processes and documentation, including the employee handbook.
  • Ensure adherence to federal, state, and local regulations and standards within established timelines.
  • Maintain a flexible hybrid work schedule with at least two days in the office.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications, while we recognize that individuals from historically marginalized backgrounds may be less likely to apply if they do not meet every criterion.   • 2-5 years of relevant professional experience, preferably within a nonprofit, educational institution, or governmental organization.
  • Proficient in key human resources functions, including employee relations, talent acquisition, and benefits management.
  • Understanding of New York State and City labor laws and employment policies.
  • Experience with HR software such as ADP or similar platforms.
  • Familiarity with recruitment tools like Indeed and LinkedIn Recruiter.
  • Strong commitment to confidentiality and professionalism in handling sensitive information.
  • PHR certification is advantageous.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams, Forms, etc.).
  • Experience with project management tools, ideally Asana.
  • Alignment with New York Cares' mission and a commitment to personal and professional development.

Compensation

The salary range for this position is between $65,000 and $72,000, based on experience. This role is part of a comprehensive compensation package that includes generous paid leave, comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance, access to a variety of e-learning courses, and tax-advantaged accounts including a 403b Thrift Plan and FSA.
