Job Overview:

Under general oversight, engages in a variety of tasks while delivering exceptional service in the management of a recreational, historical, or ecological park; elucidates natural attributes of the locale, or historical artifacts for guests; and ensures visitor safety by enforcing park regulations and guidelines.

Key Responsibilities:

Outdoor Activities & Educational Programs:
- Welcomes guests; conducts educational programs and may lead guided nature walks or excursions.
- Offers information in response to visitor inquiries, directions, guidance, and concerns.
- Works to maintain park safety and cleanliness through hands-on tasks involving grounds and equipment upkeep.
- Responsible for contributing to the park navigation program and trail system for the benefit of the park and its visitors.

Customer Engagement:
- Provides assistance to visitors via phone and in-person, addressing public inquiries regarding park hours, facilities, and reservations.
- Plays a role in enhancing the park navigation signage program and trail system for the benefit of the park and its visitors.

Financial Transactions:
- Performs cashier duties at the visitor center or gift shop.
- Collects and manages fees for park entry and merchandise purchases.
- Utilizes Point of Sale (POS) and Computer Reservation systems, requiring knowledge of agency policies and procedures.

Visitor & Staff Safety:
- Promotes the safety of park guests and enforces park regulations while safeguarding park resources.
- Utilizes two-way radio communication systems; collaborates with local authorities and law enforcement.
- Completes all necessary documentation concerning incidents.

• May lead and assist in training subordinate personnel.

• Other duties as assigned related to the position.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):

Knowledge of:

• Principles and processes for delivering customer and personal services.

• Park regulations, fees, and revenue functions.

• Techniques for displaying and interpreting objects, artifacts, and general resources to visitors.

• General office practices.

Skill in:

• Public relations and information dissemination.

• Active listening, service orientation, and critical thinking.

• Operating automatic equipment.

Ability to:

• Research natural or historical information.

• Perform mathematical calculations.

• Apply first aid techniques.

• Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

• Build interpersonal relationships.

• De-escalate upset or noncompliant visitors.

Preferred Qualifications:

Two years of experience equivalent to a Park Ranger Specialist, OR three years of experience in customer service, library, or museum work; OR a Bachelor's degree in Park Management, Forestry, Natural Resources Management, or a closely related field. Any combination of training and experience that meets knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered.

Pre-Employment Requirements:


• Must possess and maintain a valid Arizona Driver's license appropriate to assignment.

• Within six months of appointment, must obtain and maintain CPR/First Aid certification.

• Within 12 months of appointment, must acquire Interpretive Guide certification.
