Position Summary

The Underwriter will assess applications, property inspections, and endorsement requests to establish the eligibility for coverage in accordance with company policies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Evaluate exterior inspection reports, new business applications, risk alerts, and follow-up tasks on accounts requiring further underwriting assessment.
  • Analyze requests for cancellation, non-renewal actions, reinstatement inquiries, and endorsements for compliance.
  • Interpret manuals and contracts across various lines of business in multiple jurisdictions.
  • Conduct research and accurately input data into the policy administration system.
  • Engage in effective communication with internal and external stakeholders, escalating issues as necessary.
  • Meet established productivity and quality standards.
  • Undertake additional tasks and projects as assigned.


Essential Functions

  • Support internal service associates via phone and email with requests that exceed their authority.
  • Demonstrate critical thinking skills, assess risks, and make informed decisions.
  • Assist agents with new business exception requests through effective communication.
  • Provide constructive feedback on submissions and documentation required for application or endorsement acceptance.
  • Maintain and obtain necessary Property & Casualty insurance licenses through the relevant regulatory bodies.


Qualifications

  • 3-5 years of experience in agency or underwriting roles within the property and casualty insurance sector.
  • Possession of a valid 2-20 or 20-44 license and reciprocal licenses across all 50 states.
  • Comprehensive understanding of the underwriting process and associated analytics.
  • Strong communication and organizational capabilities.
  • Proficient computer skills and familiarity with various systems.
  • A college degree is preferred.


Physical Requirements

This position requires regular communication, and frequent standing, walking, and the use of hands for typing and handling materials.

Work Environment

The role is situated in a professional office setting, utilizing standard office equipment such as computers, phones, and copiers.
