Job Summary

The County of Volusia, FL is seeking a highly skilled Senior Trades Worker to join our Public Protection Division. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for performing skilled journeyman-level work in various trades, including general construction and maintenance.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform all levels of plumbing repair, replacement, renovation, and new work, including fixtures, fittings, lines, and equipment.
  • Perform all levels of electrical repair, replacement, renovations, and new work, including lighting, switches, receptacles, motors, and various types of conduits.
  • Perform welding and small engine repair.
  • Perform all levels of air conditioning equipment trouble shooting, repair, replacement of components, cyclic preventive maintenance, and other related tasks.
  • Perform all levels of work related to utility infrastructure at water, including mechanical, electrical, and structural components.
  • Supervise small crews in assignments of basic construction and/or maintenance work.
  • Operate all associated equipment, including medium-size weight construction equipment and vehicles.
  • Load and unload trailer equipment and materials.
  • Operate a computer, including sending emails, using Microsoft Word and Excel, and inputting data into the county asset management system.
Requirements
  • High School diploma or possession of GED and Four (4) years of progressively responsible experience in maintenance and repair in plumbing, electrical, mechanical, air conditioning, pipe installation and repair, concrete or brick work.
  • Journeyman level experience in one or more of the skilled trades, including plumbing, pipe laying, electrical, mechanical, and air conditioning.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Florida driver's license.
  • CDL (level to be determined by division) may be required depending on position assignment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Ability to supervise and/or train unskilled/semi-skilled subordinate personnel.
  • Skilled in laying out jobs with cost and material estimates.
  • Ability to work under stressful conditions.
  • Ability to interact effectively with others.
  • Ability to safely operate medium-size weight construction equipment and vehicles.
  • Ability to safely load and unload trailer equipment and materials.
  • Ability to operate a computer, including sending emails, using Microsoft Word and Excel, and inputting data into the county asset management system.
Working Conditions

The Senior Trades Worker will work in a fast-paced environment, performing a variety of tasks, including inside and outside work, in various weather conditions. The position requires the ability to lift, carry, push, and pull heavy objects, as well as work in confined spaces and poor ventilation.
