Duties and Responsibilities

The Multi-Trades Specialist will be responsible for a range of duties, including:

  • Repairing and adjusting plumbing, water lines, electrical wiring, and equipment
  • Participating in the erection of small structures and the more complex alteration, repair, and maintenance of plumbing, electric, and water systems and/or fixtures, brick, cement, HVAC, and carpentry work
  • Painting interiors and exteriors of buildings
  • Performing electric and acetylene welding, brazing, and fabrication
  • Operating power equipment, including lathes, drill presses, threading machines, air compressors, and gas-operated saws
  • Maintaining and tracking inventory valued up to $10,000
  • Using a computerized maintenance management system to keep daily records and logs on operating conditions and mechanical equipment repairs
  • Troubleshooting building system-related issues using a volt/ohm meter, infrared camera, and other related equipment
  • Supervising assigned laborers and trades helpers in maintenance work
  • Operating medium to heavy motorized equipment
  • Driving a vehicle to and from work sites
  • Cleaning work sites upon completion
  • Performing other related duties as required
Job Specifications

The Multi-Trades Specialist will be expected to possess the following job specifications:

  • Knowledge of procedures and techniques used in two or more construction trades
  • Knowledge of the construction and maintenance of various types of buildings and facilities
  • Knowledge of safety procedures and safety equipment
  • Skill in the use of hand and electrical/gas-operated tools and equipment used in building and construction
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and drawings

Physical Requirements

The Multi-Trades Specialist will be required to work in an environment where various types of chemicals are used, and will be expected to:

  • Work in outside environments in all types of weather
  • Safely use hand and power tools
  • Lift and carry equipment and tools
  • Lift up to 50 pounds and climb up to 35 feet
Work Category

The Multi-Trades Specialist will be classified as a medium work position, requiring the ability to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Minimum Qualifications Required

The Multi-Trades Specialist will be required to possess the following minimum qualifications:

  • Completion of the tenth grade
  • Three years of experience as a skilled trades worker in two or more of the following trades: plumbing, electrical, carpentry, masonry, painting, or other skilled trades

OR

  • Completion of the tenth grade
  • Two years of experience as a Multi-Trades Worker I with Hillsborough County
  • Possession of a valid Florida driver's license
Emergency Management Responsibilities

In the event of an emergency or disaster, the Multi-Trades Specialist may be required to respond promptly to duties and responsibilities as assigned by the employee's department, the County's Office of Emergency Management, or County Administration.

Additional Job Requirements

The Multi-Trades Specialist may be required to:

  • Maintain the ability to pass background checks required for the position, including but not limited to:
  • Criminal history background check using Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS)
  • Level 1 and Level 2 background screening (Ch. 435 Florida Statutes)
  • Child abuse, abandonment, and neglect record check using the State Automated Child Welfare Information System (SACWIS)
  • Sex offender and sexual predator record check using the list maintained by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE)
  • Possess the necessary job-related licenses or certifications, including but not limited to possession of a Florida driver's license (Class E) or an applicable commercial driver's license (CDL)
