About the Opportunity

The Office of Research Development at Northeastern University is a key component of the university's research infrastructure, supporting the development and submission of research proposals and providing professional development opportunities to faculty and researchers. The Sr. Research Development Officer will be a critical member of the research development team, working to cultivate a strong research culture and growth in this national R1 research university.

Responsibilities

The Sr. Research Development Officer will be responsible for increasing institutional research competitiveness through targeted capacity building, supporting strategic initiatives, developing partnerships and interdisciplinary teams, and large complex proposals, and research-related professional development and programming. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of research development principles, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to work effectively in a dynamic environment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement research development strategies to increase institutional research competitiveness
  • Support strategic initiatives and develop partnerships with faculty, researchers, and external stakeholders
  • Develop and manage large/complex research proposals, including budget development and submission
  • Provide research-related professional development and programming to faculty and researchers
  • Collaborate with research support services across the university to strengthen the institutional infrastructure for promoting interdisciplinary research and scholarly development

Qualifications

The successful candidate will have a Master's degree in a research-related field, plus five years of experience in research development, or a Doctoral/terminal degree, plus three years of experience. The ideal candidate will have extensive knowledge of extramural federal and non-federal sponsors supporting research and education activities, preferably in a university environment. Excellent oral and written communication abilities, with particular emphasis on the ability to understand, interpret, and summarize scientific research initiatives across a variety of subject domains, are also essential.
