Deaf Education Teacher

We are seeking a highly qualified and passionate Deaf Education Teacher to join our team at Lexington School for the Deaf. As a Lower School Teacher (Elementary), you will be responsible for implementing the educational curriculum in one or more academic subjects appropriate for K-8 school students, using New York State Learning Standards to guide and encourage students to develop and fulfill their academic potential.
Key Responsibilities- Create engaging and effective lesson and unit plans to teach students a subject, utilizing the state standards and curriculum.
- Develop and implement a solid motivating curriculum for K-8 students, incorporating technology and innovative teaching methods.
- Modify lesson plans and materials to suit students' current learning levels, ensuring inclusivity and accessibility for all students.
- Effectively integrate technology into the classroom, utilizing Schoology and Google to enhance student learning and engagement.
- Develop teaching and learning materials for use in class, including lesson plans, exams, homework, projects, and assignments that cater to all student skills.
- Maintain relationships with families and legal guardians of students to keep them informed of their child's progress, ensuring open communication and collaboration.
- Work with students individually to help them overcome specific learning challenges, providing personalized support and guidance.
- Supervise students outside the classroom, during recess, field trips, or school-related events, ensuring a safe and supportive environment.
- Monitor and track student progress, issuing grades and providing constructive feedback to students and parents.
- Knowledge of IEPs and Career Transition Plan, ensuring compliance and effective implementation.
- Work collaboratively with other teachers and administrators, including related service providers, to provide individualized support for each student regularly.
- Collaborate with other teachers to share best practices and provide meaningful feedback regularly, promoting a culture of continuous improvement.
- Support the school's Strategic Planning initiatives with an emphasis on culture, demonstrating a commitment to the school's vision, purpose, and mission.
- Master's degree in Deaf Education or related field.
- New York State Teaching Certification.
- Prior experience working with deaf students strongly preferred.
- Required clearances include medical clearance, fingerprinted by the NYC Board of Ed, SCR, and SEL clearance.
- Must have the ability to sit and stand for prolonged periods of time.
- Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times.
