Job Title: Audiologist

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled Audiologist to join our team at Lexington School for the Deaf. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering comprehensive audiological services to clients in the community and students at our school.

About the Role:

  • Deliver audiological services for students in our educational programs catering to deaf and hard of hearing students.
  • Provide services for clients at Lexington Hearing and Speech Center, including audiometric testing and audiological management.
  • Conduct independent evaluation, interpretation, and diagnosis of auditory system function.
  • Create individualized recommendations, treatment plans, and offer patient/family counseling and education.
  • Perform hearing aid evaluations, provide recommendations on amplification, maintain accurate records, and complete necessary documentation.
  • Stay informed about the latest practices and products in audiological/amplification equipment through contacts with manufacturers.
  • Act as a resource on audiology for clients, students, staff, and parents.
  • Collaborate with school management, faculty, and staff on communication skills matters.
  • Demonstrate professional conduct in all interactions.
  • Support the school's Strategic Planning initiatives with a focus on culture and uphold the school's vision, purpose, and mission.
  • Undertake other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Possess in-depth knowledge of audiology methods and techniques for diagnosing and treating communication disorders related to hearing, speech, language, and other areas.
  • Familiarity with audiometric instruments is essential.
  • Proven experience with cochlear implants.
  • Ability to work independently, employ critical thinking for making strategic decisions aligned with patient care and organizational priorities.
  • Capacity to collaborate effectively with the audiological team, faculty, and staff.
  • Comfortable working with individuals of all ages.
  • Strong organizational and record-keeping abilities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Flexibility to adapt to varying work schedules.

Education and Experience:

  • Doctorate degree in Audiology.
  • Master's Degree in audiology for graduates before 2007.
  • Current NYS Audiology licensure is mandatory.
  • NYS Hearing Aid Dispensing license.
  • Certificate of Clinical Competency from the American Speech and Hearing Association or eligibility for obtaining it.
  • At least 2 years of clinical experience, with a focus on pediatric audiology preferred.
  • Ability to communicate using American Sign Language (ASL) or willingness to learn; previous experience with Deaf individuals is a plus.

Security Clearance:

  • Mandatory clearances include medical approval, fingerprinting by the NYC Board of Ed, SCR, and SEL clearance.

Physical Requirements:

  • Capability to sit and stand for extended periods.
  • Able to lift up to 15 pounds when needed.
