Position: Specialist in Recertification

Location: Washington, D.C.

The Board of Pharmacy Specialties (BPS) operates as a distinct entity under the American Pharmacists Association (APhA), established in 1976. Our mission is to enhance patient care and promote the importance of BPS Board Certified Pharmacists as essential members of healthcare teams. We focus on recognizing and advancing specialized training, knowledge, and skills in pharmacy through board certification and recertification processes globally.

BPS Board Certification is acknowledged as the benchmark for identifying pharmacists qualified for advanced practice roles. The rigorous standards set by BPS ensure that board-certified pharmacists are well-equipped to meet the evolving demands of the profession. Currently, BPS oversees over 60,800 pharmacist certifications across 15 specialties worldwide.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assess and manage applications for recertification via examination and professional development programs across all BPS specialties.
  • Communicate requirements to eligible certificants and follow up on pending applications.
  • Assist with various processes including continuing pharmacy education (CPE) reconciliation, examination registration, and distribution of certificates and digital badges for successful candidates.
  • Address inquiries through various communication channels regarding BPS policies and recertification procedures promptly.
  • Inform certificants about available resources and recertification products from BPS-approved professional development program providers.
  • Analyze trends in recertification inquiries to enhance communication strategies and improve public-facing information.
  • Monitor and resolve urgent issues faced by certificants during the recertification process.
  • Collaborate with the BPS Manager of Recertification and Continuing Professional Development to enhance the visibility of recertification information and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Ensure the accuracy of recertification records in the BPS database for all board-certified pharmacists.
  • Maintain up-to-date information on recertification webpages and internal procedures regularly.
  • Generate reports to support strategic initiatives aimed at increasing recertification rates among board-certified pharmacists.
  • Conduct audits of recertification records to ensure compliance with BPS policies.
  • Manage quality assurance files and reports necessary for accreditation.
  • Perform record-keeping in accordance with standard operating procedures and accreditation standards related to recertification.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree with at least 1 year of relevant experience; or 2+ years of relevant experience in lieu of a degree.
