Palliative Care Advanced Practice Provider

Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center is seeking a highly skilled Palliative Care Advanced Practice Provider to join our team. As a Palliative Care APP, you will play a critical role in providing comprehensive care to patients with serious illnesses, focusing on pain and symptom management, and improving their quality of life.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct initial palliative care consultations, including comprehensive assessments of pain and other symptoms
  • Perform or facilitate follow-up visits for palliative care patients as needed
  • Evaluate the physical and psychological state of palliative care patients, providing support through patient and family teaching, counseling, and education
  • Prescribe medications, including controlled substances, as delegated and licensed
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to ensure safe, effective, and timely treatment and continuity of care
  • Communicate changes in patient health status or urgent patient issues to the primary oncology or hematology care team in a timely manner
  • Document patient care in accordance with Fred Hutch and UW Medicine policies
  • Facilitate continuity of communication and coordination of care with Fred Hutch and community providers as necessary
Qualifications
  • At least one year of ARNP or PA-C experience in Palliative Care, with experience in Medical Oncology desired
  • Strong team player with a can-do attitude and ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team
  • Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner program
  • Washington state and DEA licensure required
  • ACLS certification required within 6 months of hire
Preferred Qualifications
  • Trained in Vital Talk methods and completed the Vital Talk "Train the Trainer" Course
  • Conducted or participated in palliative care research
  • Current certification in Palliative Care
  • Graduated from a Palliative Care APP fellowship or experience in the training of palliative care APPs
  • Experience with pain and symptom management
