  • POSITION OVERVIEW
    • The Surgical Services Technologist plays a crucial role in delivering technical and skilled assistance to patients during surgical interventions under the supervision of a Registered Nurse. Responsibilities include preparing for surgical operations, maintaining and sterilizing instruments, equipment, and surgical spaces, and contributing to the evaluation of patient care plans within the operating room. This role is vital for enhancing overall unit efficiency, safety, workflow, and resource utilization while performing additional related tasks as necessary.
  • ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS
    • Education: Completion of an accredited Surgical Technology program or equivalent experience.
    • Experience: No prior experience required for graduates of surgical technology programs; however, a minimum of 5 years of experience is necessary for those without formal education in surgical technology.
    • Licensure/Certification: BLS Certification as a BLS Provider or Healthcare Provider from recognized organizations.
  • PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
    • Education: Not applicable.
    • Experience: At least one year of experience as a surgical technologist.
    • Licensure/Certification: Certification as a Surgical Technologist (CST) is preferred.
  • SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES
    • Ability to collaborate effectively with healthcare professionals and physicians, communicate clearly, and actively listen to the needs of patients and the surgical team. Strong organizational skills and the ability to remain focused during surgical procedures are essential. Familiarity with operating technical equipment and maintaining accurate documentation is required. Participation in the training of new staff and students is expected. Must be able to respond to on-call requirements based on patient care and staffing needs while upholding confidentiality.
    • READING SKILLS: Intermediate level; capable of interpreting operational and maintenance documents.
    • WRITING SKILLS: Intermediate level; able to produce routine reports and correspondence.
    • SPEAKING SKILLS: Intermediate level; proficient in presenting information effectively in various settings.
    • MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Basic level; able to perform basic arithmetic operations and apply them in practical situations.
    • REASONING ABILITY: Intermediate level; able to apply common sense to follow instructions and address problems in standardized situations.
    • AGE-SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES: Knowledgeable in growth and development, providing appropriate care for patients of different ages.
  • PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT
    • PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The role requires prolonged standing and walking, lifting and transferring patients, and handling equipment. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
    • WORK ENVIRONMENT: Typical noise levels are moderate, similar to a business office setting.
    • WORKING CONDITIONS: May involve exposure to infectious materials, hazardous anesthetic agents, and other risks associated with surgical environments.
