  • POSITION OVERVIEW
    • The Surgical Services Technologist plays a crucial role in delivering skilled technical assistance to patients during surgical interventions under the supervision of a Registered Nurse. Responsibilities include preparing for surgical operations, sterilizing and organizing instruments, equipment, and surgical spaces, and contributing to the assessment of patient care plans within the operating room. This role is essential for maintaining overall unit efficiency, safety, workflow, and resource utilization while performing additional related tasks as needed.
  • ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS
    • Education: Completion of an accredited Surgical Technology program or equivalent experience.
    • Experience: No prior experience required for graduates of surgical technology programs; however, candidates without formal education must possess a minimum of five years of relevant experience.
    • Licensure/Certification: Current BLS Certification as a BLS Provider or Healthcare Provider from recognized organizations.
  • PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
    • Education: Not applicable.
    • Experience: At least one year of practical experience as a surgical technologist.
    • Licensure/Certification: Certification as a Surgical Technologist (CST) is preferred.
  • SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES
    • Ability to collaborate effectively with healthcare professionals and physicians, ensuring clear communication with patients and surgical teams. Proficient in planning, organizing, and maintaining focus during surgical procedures; adept at operating technical equipment; capable of working under pressure while keeping accurate records. Involvement in training new staff and students is expected. Must be able to meet physical demands of the role while maintaining confidentiality.
    • READING - Intermediate: Capable of interpreting operational and maintenance documents and procedural manuals.
    • WRITING - Intermediate: Competent in composing routine reports and correspondence.
    • SPEAKING - Intermediate: Effective in presenting information in various settings.
    • MATHEMATICAL SKILLS - Basic: Ability to perform simple arithmetic operations.
    • REASONING ABILITY - Intermediate: Able to apply logical reasoning to follow instructions and solve problems.
    • AGE SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES - Knowledgeable in patient assessment and care across different age groups.
  • PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND ENVIRONMENT
    • PHYSICAL DEMANDS
      • Prolonged periods of standing and walking. Responsibilities include lifting, positioning, and transferring patients, as well as handling equipment weighing up to fifty (50) pounds.
      • Stand - Continuously for over 2 hours.
      • Walk - Continuously for over 2 hours.
      • Sit - Frequently for 1/3 to 2 hours.
      • Use hands for fine manipulation - Continuously for over 2 hours.
      • Reach with hands and arms - Continuously for over 2 hours.
      • Stoop, squat, kneel, or crouch - Continuously for over 2 hours.
      • Bend forward repetitively - Continuously for over 2 hours.
      • Talk or hear - Continuously for over 2 hours.
    • LIFTING REQUIREMENTS
      • Up to 10 pounds - Continuously for over 2 hours.
      • Up to 25 pounds - Continuously for over 2 hours.
      • Up to 35 pounds - Frequently for 1/3 to 2 hours.
      • Up to 50 pounds - Occasionally for under 1 hour.
    • WORK ENVIRONMENT
      • Typical noise level is moderate, similar to a business office environment.
    • WORKING CONDITIONS
      • Potential exposure to various hazards, including infectious diseases, bloodborne pathogens, and hazardous materials. Regular interaction with medical equipment and potential exposure to unpleasant elements related to patient care.
