  • POSITION OVERVIEW
    • The Surgical Technologists at St. Luke's Pavilion Surgery Center are integral members of the healthcare team, collaborating closely with surgeons, registered nurses, and other medical personnel in the operating room. They are tasked with delivering technically skilled care to patients throughout surgical procedures. Surgical Technologists primarily take on the first scrub role, with responsibilities categorized into three main phases: preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative. Additionally, they may be responsible for sterilizing and preparing instruments, equipment, and surgical rooms; assisting in the assessment of patient care plans within the operating room; and contributing to the overall efficiency, safety, and workflow of the unit.
  • ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS
    • Education: Completion of an accredited Surgical Technology program or equivalent experience.
    • Experience: New graduates from surgical technology programs are welcome, while those without formal education should possess a minimum of five years of relevant experience.
    • Licensure/Certification: Current BLS Certification, either as a BLS Provider or Healthcare Provider, from recognized organizations.
  • PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
    • Education: Not applicable.
    • Experience: At least one year of experience as a surgical technologist is preferred, with a strong preference for candidates with operating room or sterile processing experience.
    • Licensure/Certification: Certification as a Surgical Technologist (CST) is highly desirable.
  • SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES
    • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with medical professionals and communicate clearly with patients and staff. Capable of maintaining focus and organization during surgical procedures, and proficient in operating technical equipment. Must be able to work under pressure, maintain accurate documentation, and assist in training new personnel and students. Ability to meet physical demands, including lifting and transferring patients, while ensuring confidentiality.
    • READING: Intermediate level; able to interpret technical documents and procedural manuals.
    • WRITING: Intermediate level; capable of drafting reports and correspondence.
    • SPEAKING: Intermediate level; able to present information effectively in various settings.
    • MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Basic skills; able to perform simple calculations related to measurements and weights.
    • REASONING ABILITY: Intermediate skills; able to apply common sense to follow instructions and solve problems.
    • AGE-SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES: Knowledgeable in providing appropriate care for patients of varying ages.
  • PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT
    • PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The role requires prolonged standing and walking, lifting and transferring patients, and handling supplies and equipment weighing up to fifty pounds.
    • WORK ENVIRONMENT: The typical noise level is moderate, similar to a business office setting.
    • WORKING CONDITIONS: Occasional exposure to infectious diseases and hazardous materials, with a risk of bloodborne pathogens and other safety hazards.
