Advanced Practice Nurse

Job Summary:
The Advanced Practice Nurse - Hepatology Specialist will practice in a Magnet recognized tertiary academic medical center with Level One Trauma Designation, Comprehensive Stroke Center Certification and ST-Elevation Myocardial Infarction (STEMI) Receiving Center designation.
This role will collaborate with the supervising physician and perform overlapping medical/surgical procedures for specialty population of patients with critical acuity and/or participates in service coverage needs 24 hours per day 7 days per week.
The Advanced Practice Nurse - Hepatology Specialist will provide age-specific and developmentally appropriate medical management and coordination of patient care consistent with their educational preparation and according to designated standardized procedures.
Responsibilities include performing complete physical examinations, including ordering, interpreting and evaluating diagnostic tests and examinations, documenting subjective and objective data and care in the electronic medical record according to established policies and procedures.
The Advanced Practice Nurse - Hepatology Specialist will keep patient, family, and/or caregiver informed regarding plan of care, e.g., hospital course, post-operative plan of care, expected outcomes, follow-up care.
This role will encourage the patient, family and/or caregiver to ask questions and be active participants in their care.
The Advanced Practice Nurse - Hepatology Specialist will demonstrate a commitment to excellence and the exceeding of customer expectations by modeling behavior in the context of institutional values and the empowerment of professional governance of nursing practice.
This role will serve as a preceptor for students and facilitate a meaningful learning experience.
The Advanced Practice Nurse - Hepatology Specialist will represent nursing as an empowered profession that readily embraces new knowledge, innovations, and improvements in practice to enhance the patient experience and clinical outcomes.
This role will support and inspire the journey to nursing excellence and maintaining Magnet Recognition as outlined by the American Nurses Credentialing Center.
The Advanced Practice Nurse - Hepatology Specialist will demonstrate in-depth knowledge of all applicable regulatory standards and ensure compliance with regulations and maintains survey-readiness at all times.
This role will practice within the NP scope of practice pursuant to standardized procedures and follows policies, protocols, techniques, guidelines, standardized procedures and state and federal regulations.
The Advanced Practice Nurse - Hepatology Specialist will perform other duties as needed.
Education and Experience:
A Master of Science Degree in Nursing or Doctorate of Nursing Practice (DNP) and completion of NP curriculum is required. If hired as an NP prior to 2005 then a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing is acceptable.
A minimum of three years of experience as a registered nurse in an acute care setting or in a sub-specialty clinic environment is required. Minimum one year of experience in area of NP specialty is preferred.
Knowledge and Skills:
The Advanced Practice Nurse - Hepatology Specialist must have in-depth knowledge of advanced practice nursing, clinical pathways, research, evidenced-based practice, healthcare quality, patient safety, performance improvement, regulatory standards, medical staff structure, healthcare law and finance, peer review and legal aspects of care.

The Advanced Practice Nurse - Hepatology Specialist must be able to demonstrate excellence in bedside practice, manner and nursing professionalism, apply theoretical concepts to clinical practice and continually expands knowledge base and clinical skills with a focus in area(s) of specialty.

The Advanced Practice Nurse - Hepatology Specialist must be able to read, write legibly, communicate in English (and Spanish preferred) with professional quality, use computer, printer and software programs necessary to the position, e.g. Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, troubleshoot and calibrate patient care equipment, perform technical patient care activities.

The Advanced Practice Nurse - Hepatology Specialist must be able to relate and communicate positively, effectively and professionally with others, be assertive and consistent in following and enforcing policies, work calmly and respond courteously when under pressure, lead, supervise, teach and collaborate, accept direction.

The Advanced Practice Nurse - Hepatology Specialist must be able to think critically, work independently with minimal supervision, perform basic math and statistical functions, compose written material, manage multiple assignments effectively, organize and prioritize workload, work well under pressure, problem solve, recall information with accuracy, pay close attention to detail.

The Advanced Practice Nurse - Hepatology Specialist must be able to distinguish colors and smells as necessary for patient care, hear sufficiently for general conversation in person and on the telephone, identify and distinguish various sounds associated with the work place and patient care, see adequately to read computer screens, medical records and written documents necessary to position, discern temperature variances through touch.
Licensures and Certifications:
An active California Registered Nurse (RN) license and California Nurse Practitioner Certificate is required (certification pending/in process acceptable). If hired after February, 2021, National certification is required.
