Clinical Nurse B-ED

Job Summary: We are seeking a skilled Clinical Nurse B-ED to join our team at Loma Linda University Medical Center. As a Magnet Recognized facility, we provide high-quality patient care in a fast-paced environment. The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing and a minimum of one year of nursing experience.
Key Responsibilities:
Perform the nursing process with minimal supervision in a culturally diverse patient population presenting with a variety of illnesses and diseases in varying stages and/or minor and major injuries.
Rapidly assess and stabilize patients with life-threatening situations.
Exhibit solid decision-making skills and effectively utilize discretion and independent judgment to prioritize, coordinate, provide and document direct and indirect age-specific and developmentally appropriate quality patient-centered care in accordance with Loma Linda University Children's Hospital (LLUCH) established Professional Practice Model (Duffy's Quality Caring Theory).
Make sound decisions, multitask and balance and prioritize each patient's needs and treat accordingly.
Demonstrate flexibility and manage multiple cases simultaneously and continuously prioritize needs.
Work collaboratively with physicians from multiple services lines and assist with common and complex procedures based on orientation and competency.
Display confidence in dealing with community emergency situations, catastrophic incidents and mass casualties.
Receive patients from first responders brought in by land and air ambulances, patients that are brought in during mass casualties, and walk-in patients seeking care.
Demonstrate flexibility and manage multiple cases simultaneously and continuously prioritize needs.
Work at maximum efficiency without compromising patient care.
Implement standing orders appropriately.
Handle unexpected situations and changes in direction calmly and with confidence.
Understand the significance each role of the multidisciplinary team plays to provide optimum care in the emergency/trauma patient, e.g., prehospital care providers, law enforcement agency staff, chaplains, social workers, case managers, multiple physician services and consult staff, licensed and unlicensed care providers, triage nurses, Mobile Intensive Care Nurses (MICNs), and the Hospital Emergency Response Team (HERT) that goes out into the community when needed.
Demonstrate basic knowledge about agencies governing emergency and trauma services, e.g., Emergency Medical Treatment & Labor Act (EMTALA), local Emergency Medical Services (EMS) agency, Inland Counties Emergency Medical Association (ICEMA), and State Emergency Medical Services Authorities (EMSA), in addition to state and federal hospital regulations.
Apply theoretical concepts to clinical practice and continually expand knowledge base and clinical skills with a focus in emergency and trauma medicine.
Contribute to nursing excellence and embrace new knowledge, innovations and improvements in practice to enhance the patient experience and clinical outcomes.
Exhibit interpersonal skills to maximize patient satisfaction, safe patient care and professionalism.
Function in a skills mix environment and directly supervise and delegate tasks to licensed and unlicensed staff.
Meet qualifications, licensure, certifications and competencies as defined in the department-specific Plan for Providing Care.
Contribute to a work environment of caring and cooperation among a culturally diverse workforce and patient population.
Performs other duties as needed.
Education and Experience:
Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing (BSN) required.
If hired into a Loma Linda University Health entity prior to April 1, 2020, an Associate Degree or Diploma Degree in Nursing required.
Minimum of one year nursing experience required.
New hires are eligible to be promoted into the CN-C classification when criteria outlined in the Clinical Nurse Ladder handbook and job specifications outlined in CN-C job description are met.
Knowledge and Skills:
Demonstrates basic competencies in clinical nursing.
Ability to apply theoretical concepts to clinical practice and continually expands knowledge base and clinical skills with a focus in emergency and trauma nursing.
Basic knowledge of healthcare regulations and accreditation required.
Exhibit professional behavior at all times and works calmly and responds courteously when under pressure.
Able to: speak, read and write legibly in English (and Spanish preferred) with professional quality; use computer, printer and software programs necessary to the position, e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook, electronic medical record, electronic event reporting program; troubleshoot and calibrate patient care equipment; perform technical patient care activities; relate and communicate positively, effectively and professionally with others; be assertive and consistent in following and/or enforcing policies; teach, collaborate; accept direction; think critically; work independently with minimal supervision; perform basic math and statistical functions; manage multiple patient assignments effectively; organize and prioritize workload; problem solve; recall information with accuracy; pay close attention to detail; distinguish colors and smells as necessary for patient care; hear sufficiently for general conversation in person and on the telephone; identify and distinguish various sounds associated with the work place; see adequately to read computer screens, medical records and written documents necessary to position; discern temperature variances through touch.
Licensures and Certifications:
Active California Registered Nurse (RN) license required.
Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certifications issued by the American Heart Association required.
Trauma Nursing Care Course (TNCC) and Emergency Nurse Pediatric certification through the Emergency Nurse Association required within one year of hire.
Certified Emergency Nurse preferred.
