Position Overview

This role is situated within the Natural Resources Stewardship and Science Division, focusing on the stewardship of natural resources.

Summary

This is a term position that may extend for a duration of up to 10 years, with an initial commitment of at least 13 months. Please note that term positions do not provide permanent status within the Federal service.

Responsibilities

The primary responsibilities of the Civil Engineer role encompass the following:

  • Engineering Evaluation: Conducts thorough engineering evaluations of oil and gas facilities, which includes coordinating technical planning activities, managing data collection, performing modeling and data analysis, assessing site conditions, and estimating risks. Engineering recommendations and decisions are made based on these evaluations.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Develops specific project guidelines and procedures for oil and gas facilities. This includes preparing and reviewing technical documentation such as design standards, operational procedures, and inspection reports. The role also involves presenting technical findings during coordination meetings and design briefings.
  • Inspections and Assessments: Plans and executes examinations and inspections of oil and gas facilities, which involves identifying deficiencies, calculating repair estimates, and coordinating with various stakeholders. The engineer is responsible for documenting results and identifying future asset needs.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Provides engineering support related to regulatory oversight, policy development, and resolution of compliance issues. This may involve participating in technical working groups and collaborating with external partners.

Conditions of Employment

Qualifications

All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement. Credit will be given for all relevant experience. To qualify, applicants must meet one of the following basic requirements:

  • Education: A degree in Engineering from an accredited program.
  • Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of college-level education and technical experience that demonstrates a thorough understanding of engineering principles.

To qualify for this position, candidates must possess specialized experience comparable to the GS-11 level in the Federal service, including inspecting oil and gas facilities, analyzing inspection data, and utilizing GIS software.

Education Documentation: Applicants must submit transcripts or documentation of education credentials.
