Position Overview

As a Data Engineer at Booz Allen Hamilton, you will be responsible for the strategic planning and execution of data architecture, including the development of databases, ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes, and comprehensive data management tasks. Your role will involve crafting scalable and sustainable data engineering solutions utilizing tools such as Python, Kafka, and NiFi, while also writing custom scripts for data ingestion, transformation, and aggregation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with project team members to enhance project delivery and operationalize complex data solutions.
  • Identify and resolve issues, apply necessary transformations, and propose data cleansing and quality validation strategies.
  • Work within a dynamic, Agile environment alongside a diverse team of analysts, data engineers, developers, and data consumers.

Essential Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in Python, with a focus on developing, executing, and testing Python scripts.
  • Extensive experience (5+ years) with the complete ETL pipeline, encompassing data acquisition, preparation, and database architecture.
  • At least 1 year of experience in Kafka or NiFi development.
  • Proficient in creating software solutions for both structured and unstructured data processing.
  • Experience in a collaborative, cross-functional team setting.
  • Ability to develop various scripts and programs to convert diverse data types into usable formats, while supporting project teams in scaling, monitoring, and operating data platforms.
  • Possession of a Secret clearance.
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with public cloud platforms such as AWS, Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud.
  • Experience in data engineering projects that support data science, AI, and ML implementations.
  • Knowledge of containerization tools like Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Experience with distributed data and computing technologies, including Spark, Databricks, Hadoop, Hive, or AWS EMR.
  • Background in real-time data and streaming applications.
  • Experience with NoSQL databases such as MongoDB or Cassandra.
  • Familiarity with data warehousing solutions, including AWS Redshift, MySQL, or Snowflake.
  • Experience with UNIX and Linux systems, including basic commands and Shell scripting.
  • Understanding of Agile engineering methodologies.

Clearance Requirements

Selected candidates will undergo a security investigation and must meet eligibility criteria for access to classified information; a Secret clearance is mandatory.
