Position Overview

QinetiQ is seeking a Chief Engineer to spearhead the advancement of innovative technologies focused on enhancing airborne C5ISR sensor systems. This role will primarily support the development of high spectral fidelity airborne systems for both commercial and defense sectors.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead a cross-functional team of engineers dedicated to airborne C5ISR sensor systems throughout the entire product lifecycle, including:
    • System Architecture and Conceptual Design
    • Trade studies of system components, including EO/IR, hyperspectral, and RF/EW sensors
    • Requirements definition and management
    • Design and integration of stabilized multi-mission payloads for airborne platforms (fixed wing, rotary, UAV)
    • Conduct field and flight testing, data collection, mission coordination, and oversight
    • Perform reliability, maintainability, and failure analyses
    • Enhance system functionality and performance, transitioning systems to production.
  • Implement innovative strategies for the design, integration, testing, and production of complex engineering sensor systems
  • Advise company leadership on project directions and deliver technical and program presentations to government and contractor personnel at all levels
  • Collaborate with customers and strategic partners, both domestic and international, on the adaptation and integration of C5ISR multi-mission payloads to airborne platforms, communication nodes, and ground control systems.
  • Work alongside Program Management and Senior Leadership to ensure the quality and overall performance of the engineering team and final products.
  • Contribute to the preparation of proposals, business plans, proposal work statements, specifications, operating budgets, and financial terms/conditions of contracts.
  • Engage in the development of new business opportunities and the expansion of existing ones.
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to junior engineers and other technical staff.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering.
  • Over 15 years of demonstrated experience in the design, integration, and testing of large C5ISR systems, with a focus on EO-IR or hyperspectral sensors and airborne applications.
  • At least 10 years of experience leading multidisciplinary engineering teams in executing ISR and EO-IR based sensor systems projects.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, capable of interacting with department heads, managers, and serving as a customer liaison.
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of computer systems and proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including MS Project and SharePoint.
  • Additional skills include briefing capabilities, project management, organizational skills, and effective communication.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree or equivalent experience in Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering.
  • Hands-on experience with project management and systems engineering tools such as Confluence, JIRA, MS Project, MagicDraw, or similar, as well as Windchill.
  • Familiarity with tools like Altium, SolidWorks, NV-IPM, Zemax, or MathCAD is a plus.
