Position Summary

The Medication Assistant (MA) acts as a caregiver, delivering resident-focused nursing care and daily living support to assigned individuals under the guidance of a licensed nurse. The role requires knowledge of and provision of age-appropriate care addressing both physical and psychological needs according to the care plan. Responsibilities include assisting with essential health care tasks such as bathing, grooming, dressing, and recording vital signs, as well as offering psycho-social support and personal care.

The MA administers prescribed medications as directed by a licensed nurse, adhering to state regulations. Documentation of care outcomes, medication administration, and any changes in resident conditions is essential. The role also involves collecting non-invasive specimens, gathering vital signs, and maintaining cleanliness in living areas.

Qualifications

A high school diploma or GED is preferred but not mandatory. Candidates should be at least 18 years old, with prior clinical or nursing assistant experience being advantageous. Completion of annual competency testing and continuing education credits is required, along with maintaining necessary certifications. A valid driver's license and auto insurance may be needed.

For all Good Samaritan Society locations, candidates must possess the state-required certified/trained medication aide certification (CMA or TMA).
