Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Clinical Laboratory Technician 2 to join our team in the Microbiology Department at the University of Washington. As a key member of our laboratory team, you will be responsible for performing routine laboratory tests, preparing specimens, and setting up equipment for testing. Your attention to detail and ability to work accurately in a fast-paced environment will be essential in ensuring the quality of our laboratory results.

Responsibilities
  • Process patient, proficiency, and environmental specimens for analysis, including specimen identification, orders, assessment, preparation, and storage.
  • Perform patient and proficiency tests without errors, following standard operating procedures and current policies and procedures.
  • Utilize information management systems to accession, status, verify, and reject orders, and correctly input test results using the laboratory information system.
  • Report critical values, STAT results, courtesy notifications, and routine results according to established protocols, ensuring turn-around-times are consistently within guidelines and documentation is complete.
  • Demonstrate the ability to perform and document routine quality control and preventative maintenance according to established protocols.
  • Assist in instruction and training of employees, post-doctoral fellows, residents, medical students, and medical technology students, providing evaluation feedback in a timely manner.
  • Participate in the development and evaluation of new processes and procedures, and assist in improving current processes.
Requirements
  • High school graduation or equivalent.
  • Two years of chemical, clinical, or public health laboratory experience, or equivalent education/experience.
  • Associate degree in a laboratory science (chemical or biological science) or medical laboratory technology from an accredited institution, and equivalent laboratory training and experience meeting the requirements defined in the CLIA regulation 42CFR.
