POSITION SUMMARY

We are in search of a strategic and results-focused financial leader to fill the role of Director of Finance and Administration. This pivotal position is accountable for the overall financial integrity and operational effectiveness of our organization, ensuring adherence to all financial regulations while promoting organizational success. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a robust combination of financial expertise, leadership capabilities, and strategic insight to efficiently manage and enhance our financial resources. The Director of Finance and Administration will report directly to the Chief Operations Officer and collaborate closely with school leaders and Home Office team members.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Financial Oversight

  • Develop and manage annual budgets in partnership with C-suite executives, school leaders, and the back office.
  • Provide financial training and support to school leaders and home office personnel.
  • Ensure compliance with budgetary guidelines across home office and school locations.
  • Oversee daily financial operations, including accounting, payroll, accounts payable/receivable, and cash management.
  • Guarantee timely and precise payments, transactions, and monthly closing processes in collaboration with the finance team and back office.
  • Ensure accurate coding and entry of invoices and reimbursement requests.
  • Review and approve credit card reconciliation reports.
  • Work closely with the finance team to maintain vendor and accounting documentation.
  • Act as a strategic partner with home office leadership and school site leaders on financial and operational strategies.

Reporting and Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with all financial reporting requirements set by authorizers, state, and federal regulations, in collaboration with the back office team.
  • Guarantee adherence to all financial regulations and internal policies.
  • Generate accurate and timely financial reports for stakeholders, including analysis and recommendations to inform strategic decision-making.
  • Coordinate and gather audit information, collaborating with auditors during fieldwork and liaising with team members and back office for task completion.
  • Regularly analyze financial data and present comprehensive financial reports to school sites and home office leadership, monitoring progress and changes while keeping senior leadership informed of the organization's financial status.
  • Establish and uphold record retention policies, procedures, and practices.

Business Services Coordination

  • Build and lead a high-performing finance team.
  • Collaborate closely with the Chief Operations Officer to ensure effective communication and alignment between departments.
  • Foster a collaborative and results-driven team culture.
  • Support the payroll process and team, reviewing and approving all payroll runs.
  • Provide additional support to operational departments as necessary.

CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS

  • Strong commitment to the organization, its mission, and core values.
  • Comprehensive understanding of financial reporting and business services.
  • Proficient in editing and drafting reports, business correspondence, and procedural manuals.
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse groups.
  • Detail-oriented and highly organized, capable of managing multiple priorities.
  • Able to thrive in a fast-paced environment and solve problems efficiently.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Proficient with various technologies and quick to learn new systems.
  • Familiarity with public education and the charter school movement is preferred.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, or a related field (Master's degree preferred).
  • 5+ years of progressive financial management experience, ideally within the education sector.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting standards.
  • Proven ability to analyze financial data and convert complex information into actionable insights.
  • Previous experience in charter schools is preferred.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Prolonged periods of desk work and computer use.
  • Motor coordination and finger dexterity for keyboarding and other tasks.
  • Occasional lifting of objects up to twenty pounds.
  • Ability to access and navigate various facilities within the organization.

COMPENSATION

The salary range for this position is $125,000-$155,000, commensurate with experience, education, and expertise. A competitive benefits package is also available.

This is a full-time, exempt position requiring 100% in-person attendance.
