VCU's Grants & Contracts Department seeks a highly skilled Financial Analyst to support the post-award administration of grants and contracts.

As a Financial Analyst, you will be responsible for the financial management of grants and contracts from award to close-out. Your duties will include data entry in financial systems, analyzing data to ensure cost compliance with sponsor requirements, and providing administrative assistance to Principal Investigators and Administrators. You will also review financial system reports and data, prepare financial reports to the sponsor, and reconcile general and operating ledgers. Additionally, you will review and follow up with sponsors on the status of monthly receivables and prepare and mail invoices to sponsoring agencies.

This position requires a Bachelor's degree in an appropriate field such as accounting, finance, business, or management, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. You must have a positive, flexible attitude, and be able to be trained in VCU's Grants & Contracts Accounting model of work. You should also have demonstrated knowledge of federal, state, and sponsor rules and regulations related to grants, excellent oral and written communication skills, and the ability to organize work and establish reasonable priorities. Technical proficiency in Microsoft Office and experience with web-based and enterprise financial management/reporting systems are also required. Experience working in a university sponsored program or grant accounting office post-award administrative setting is preferred.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Data entry in financial systems for award setup
  • Analyzing data to ensure cost compliance with sponsor requirements
  • Providing administrative assistance to Principal Investigators and Administrators
  • Reviewing financial system reports and data
  • Preparing financial reports to the sponsor
  • Reconciling general and operating ledgers
  • Reviewing and following up with sponsors on the status of monthly receivables, and preparing and mailing invoices to sponsoring agencies


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in an appropriate field such as accounting, finance, business, or management, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Positive, flexible attitude - Ability and desire to be trained in VCU's Grants & Contracts Accounting model of work
  • Demonstrated knowledge of federal, state, and sponsor rules and regulations related to grants
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to organize work and establish reasonable priorities
  • Verifiable history of excellent past performance and attendance records
  • Technical proficiency in Microsoft Office and experience with web-based and enterprise financial management/reporting systems
  • Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in a university sponsored program or grant accounting office post-award administrative setting
  • Extensive experience with SunGard Banner Financial System
