Job Summary:

The Commonwealth of Virginia is seeking a highly skilled Financial Operations Specialist to join our team. This role provides critical fiscal support and accountability to the organization, ensuring timely completion of tasks and compliance with University, federal, state, and grant funders' standards.

Key Responsibilities:

The Financial Operations Specialist will be a full-time university and administrative professional, responsible for:
  • Providing risk assessment and making informed decisions
  • Making purchases and preparing travel reimbursements
  • Reconciling simple accounts and meeting with PIs and Project Directors
  • Researching complex payment inquiries and providing timely resolutions
  • Monitoring group email addresses and finance tracking boards
  • Tracking staff requests
  • Participating in training for department staff on fiscal processes
  • Developing and maintaining positive relationships with internal and external customers
  • Serving as a secondary timekeeper as needed
  • Completing all University trainings timely
  • Participating in Partnership collaboration activities

Requirements:

The ideal candidate will have:
  • Experience in a finance role
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Extensive experience with Microsoft Office Excel
  • Excellent attention to detail and task-oriented approach
  • Dependability and ability to work additional hours when needed
  • Ability to successfully work on a team
  • Experience processing finance requests
  • Ability to type at least 50 wpm
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Demonstrated experience working in a diverse environment
  • Ability to multi-task
  • Ability to work nights and weekends during peak time
  • Ability to travel when needed

Preferred Requirements:

The ideal candidate will also have:
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
  • In-depth knowledge of rules and regulations pertaining to state agency disbursements
  • Experience serving as an approver of finance requests
  • Some knowledge of grants accounting
  • Knowledge of timekeeping
  • Experience with Banner, Chrome River, Realsource
  • Experience with preparing online communications
