Carthage College is currently accepting applications for the position of Environmental Maintenance Associate. Under the supervision of the Environmental Services Manager and the Team Leader, the Environmental Maintenance Associate is tasked with ensuring that the college and its auxiliary facilities are kept in a clean, appealing, and secure condition. The areas of responsibility may encompass offices, corridors, classrooms, laboratories, staircases, elevators, floors, locker rooms, athletic venues, walls, and restroom facilities. The Environmental Maintenance Associate utilizes various cleaning tools and equipment including mops, cloths, buckets, vacuums, and approved cleaning agents.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conducts a variety of cleaning tasks daily for designated areas, including waste disposal, dusting, sanitizing, and mopping in accordance with health standards.
  • Handles the removal and disposal of trash and hazardous waste regularly.
  • Restocks soap, toilet paper, and paper towels as necessary.
  • Performs routine cleaning of windows, walls, and blinds.
  • Prepares supply carts with necessary materials for work areas.
  • Keeps cleaning equipment in a clean, safe, and organized state, reporting any damaged or missing items to the Manager or Team Leader.
  • Occasionally rearranges furniture for cleaning purposes and returns it to its original position.
  • May assist with maintenance projects related to buildings and grounds.
  • May help with furniture relocation for special occasions.
  • Participates in monthly staff meetings and engages in departmental training sessions.
  • Demonstrates understanding of and complies with all relevant standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Maintains effective communication and fosters positive relationships with colleagues, students, and the community.
  • May work on weekends and holidays as required.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • High School diploma or GED is required.
  • A minimum of two years of experience in a similar role is necessary.
  • Strong dedication to customer service and teamwork.
  • Excellent time management abilities.
  • Effective problem-solving skills.
  • Strong verbal communication capabilities.
  • Good organizational skills.
  • Ability to comprehend written and verbal instructions.
  • Ability to mentor and train student workers or colleagues.
  • Capability to work independently with minimal supervision.
