Job Summary

The Program Director is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of a branch/unit/satellite, ensuring a comprehensive and outcome-driven program that delivers high-quality services in areas such as Academic Success, Healthy Lifestyles, the Arts, Good Character, and Citizenship, Sports, Fitness, and Recreation Programs.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement programs that support youth development and prepare youth for success.
  • Establish program objectives consistent with organizational goals and mission.
  • Oversee day-to-day program activities in accordance with established standards and goals.
  • Ensure members participate in a variety of program areas/activities and receive instruction and constructive feedback to develop skills.
  • Demonstrate leadership to assure conduct, safety, and development of members.
  • Ensure a healthy, safe environment with well-maintained facilities, equipment, and supplies.
  • Program Development and Implementation:
    • Attend regular meetings with supervisors and staff to discuss program goals and progress.
    • Conduct regular meetings with line staff to review program activities and provide feedback.
    • Establish and maintain program goals and settings that ensure the health and safety of members.
  • Ensure the evaluation of programs on a continual basis and ensure programs/activities respond to member needs and address their gender and cultural diversity.
  • Control program and activity expenditures.
  • Compile regular reports reflecting all activities, attendance, and participation.
  • Oversee membership recruitment and community outreach.
  • Supervision:
    • Allocate and monitor work assigned to program volunteers and staff, providing ongoing feedback and regular appraisal.
    • Identify and support training and development opportunities for assigned volunteers and staff.
  • Ensure productive and effective performance by all program staff and volunteers.
Additional Responsibilities:
  • Plan activities and implement programs according to community needs, recruit targeted members to participate, and assist in their delivery.
  • Oversee special programs and/or events, and/or participate in the implementation of other BGCA National Programs and other programs as directed by supervisor and unit activities as necessary.
  • Consult with parents concerning member and site issues.
  • Handle deposits and banking transactions from time to time.
  • Evaluate staff within the site.
Requirements:
  • Preferred: Four-year degree in a related field from an accredited college or university.
  • A minimum of three years' work experience in a Boys or Girls Club or similar organization planning and supervising activities based on the developmental needs of young people or equivalent experience.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Group leadership skills, including an understanding of group dynamics.
  • Demonstrated organizational, staff, and project management abilities.
Work Environment:

The ability to supervise large groups of children and coordination of their activities. Will be required to stand for extended periods of time. Some time will be spent sitting at a workstation. Moderate lifting will be required from time to time.
