Role Summary: The Special Education Support Specialist plays a crucial role in assisting both general and special education teachers by providing a variety of instructional support to individual students or small groups with diverse learning needs. This position involves close collaboration with educators, administrators, and support staff to enhance the educational experience for students with special needs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide individualized support to students to reinforce learning of concepts introduced by the teaching staff.
  • Assist in both general education and specialized instruction settings as required.
  • Collect and analyze data related to student performance across academic, behavioral, and social-emotional domains.
  • Collaborate with teachers to develop tailored strategies that address the unique needs and interests of each student.
  • Manage the distribution and collection of instructional materials and assignments.
  • Supervise students during various activities, including emergency drills and field trips.
  • Maintain confidentiality and uphold ethical standards regarding student information.
  • Participate in professional development and training sessions as needed.
  • Communicate any relevant information regarding student progress to the teaching staff.
  • Support substitute teachers by providing essential information about student needs and classroom procedures.
  • Assist in the use of educational technology and resources.
  • Help maintain accurate records in compliance with educational policies.
  • Evaluate and assist in daily student assignments.
  • Organize and prepare instructional materials and classroom environments.
  • Support students with personal care needs as necessary.
  • Act as a mandated reporter to ensure student safety.
  • Monitor student schedules and behavior plans to foster a positive learning atmosphere.
  • Contribute to IEP meetings by providing insights on student progress.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED is required.
  • Successful completion of Paraprofessional Assessment (if applicable).
  • Valid Fingerprint Clearance Card from the Arizona Department of Public Safety.

Physical Requirements:

  • Occasional travel between campuses may be necessary.
  • Ability to lift objects up to 25 pounds.
  • Position may require prolonged periods of sitting, standing, and engaging in various physical activities.
