Role Overview:
The Automation Systems Engineer will deliver technical and maintenance assistance for the refinery's Distributed Control System (DCS). This system is crucial for operators to maintain stable process control and gather data for environmental compliance. The ideal candidate will conduct both routine and emergency maintenance on operational technology (OT) systems, including DCS servers, operator interfaces, network devices, virtual machine setups, and cabling, to enhance equipment reliability and minimize maintenance expenses. Collaboration with the network administration team and Control System Engineers will be key for addressing complex repairs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Execute routine assurance tasks such as security updates, data backups, anti-virus management, application whitelisting, network switch configurations, and DCS software upgrades.
  • Diagnose and repair control system hardware and software issues, including debugging and component replacements.
  • Evaluate and report on the status of control system hardware and networks using system logs and third-party management tools.
  • Engage in planning and management of the refinery's OT virtual machine infrastructure.
  • Identify and rectify failures in Honeywell HPM and C300 control system components.
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation, including network architecture diagrams, fiber panel layouts, disaster recovery plans, and cyber incident response protocols.
Position Requirements:
  • Work Schedule:
    • Flexibility for altered work schedules during maintenance outages and turnarounds may be necessary.
    • Participation in on-call or standby coverage is required.
  • Physical Requirements:
    • Ability to climb ladders and navigate steps.
    • Capability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Work Environment:
    • Willingness to work at heights and in confined spaces.
    • Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Possession of a valid Driver's License.
  • Must have or be able to obtain a TWIC card.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • At least 2 years of experience as a control system technician or OT network administrator in an industrial environment.
  • High school diploma or G.E.D.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Additional years of experience in control systems.
  • Technical experience in a refinery or petrochemical facility.
  • Familiarity with:
    • Programming skills in Visual BASIC.
    • Troubleshooting and repairing Honeywell and other DCS equipment.
    • Network security administration tools such as Solarwinds and Claroty.
    • Cisco switch configuration.
    • Support for virtual machine infrastructure on the VMWare platform.
