Position: Software Principal Engineer

Overview:

Role Summary:

The ideal candidate will be a proficient Linux application developer with extensive knowledge of the Linux Kernel. Familiarity with daily commands utilized in the Linux development environment is essential, and the ability to showcase additional, less common Linux administrative commands will be advantageous.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Take ownership of the design, planning, configuration, documentation, deployment, and top-tier support of storage infrastructure technologies.
  • Identify design requirements and provide recommendations for capacity planning, performance enhancement, and future strategies.
  • Design storage solutions based on business needs, including workload modeling for sizing, optimization, and troubleshooting.
  • Research and evaluate system/OS features, collaborating with vendors for specific application sizing.
  • Understand and manage storage virtualization, data rationalization, workload automation, storage provisioning, disaster recovery, and SAN fabric management.
  • Troubleshoot reliability, availability, and performance issues related to storage.
  • Collaborate on and implement architectural recommendations for application integration, system administration, and performance tuning.
  • Lead or engage in the software development lifecycle, encompassing research, new development, modifications, security, error correction, and maintenance of software products.
  • Gather business requirements and contribute to product definition and feature prioritization, including customer usability assessments.
  • Conduct competitive analysis for product features and lead testing and enhancement of new or existing products.
  • Create and review technical documentation for software products and solutions.
  • Drive innovation for new software products or enhancements to existing offerings.
  • Ensure the delivery of products aligns with budget, schedule, and quality standards.
  • Work collaboratively with the team to maintain and communicate current development schedules and status.

Required Qualifications:

  • 6-8 years of solid experience in Linux application programming.
  • Experience with Ubuntu is a plus.
  • Demonstrable experience in Linux system design, development, and debugging.
  • Proficient in BASH or similar Linux shell environments.
  • Familiarity with debugging tools such as gdb.
  • Conscious of resource management during software development.
  • Ability to debug complex, multi-component system-level issues.
  • Knowledge of REST, Redfish, SOAP, or similar protocols.
  • Experience with Git and the ability to demonstrate relevant commands.
  • Some understanding of Linux Kernel driver knowledge is strongly desired.
  • Experience with cross-compiling is a plus.
  • Examples of contributions to open-source projects are highly regarded.
