Position Summary

The Cost Accounting Specialist will play a crucial role in supporting the accounting and finance team by analyzing inventory costs across various business segments. The ideal candidate will exhibit a dynamic, hands-on approach, with a strong desire to engage in both detailed analysis and strategic planning, thriving in a fast-paced and entrepreneurial atmosphere.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct data and financial analysis to support decision-making.
  • Regularly update and maintain standard costs as necessary.
  • Evaluate manufacturing processes and their effects on overall costs.
  • Assist in the preparation of financial reports for the Board of Directors.
  • Analyze and communicate variances in costs and expenses to management.
  • Collaborate with management on projects aimed at time and material savings.
  • Review current costing methodologies and propose enhancements.
  • Create and manage weekly, monthly, and quarterly reporting, including ad hoc requests.
  • Support various financial initiatives and projects.
  • Oversee the standard inventory system, establish inventory costing, and determine pricing strategies to maximize profit margins.
  • Perform inventory audits to ensure accuracy.
  • Contribute to the ongoing development and implementation of cost accounting and inventory control processes.
  • Execute additional tasks as assigned by the manager.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams).
  • Strong analytical skills and capabilities.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently.
  • Experience with ERP systems such as Sage, Oracle, or NetSuite is preferred.
  • Advanced Excel skills, including vlookups and pivot tables.
  • Familiarity with FIFO accounting principles.
  • Customer service-oriented mindset.
  • Strong ethics, integrity, and honesty.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Creative problem-solving abilities and a knack for innovative solutions.
  • Capability to identify and rectify process inefficiencies.
  • Professional demeanor at all times.

Preferred:

  • Experience in cost accounting and analysis.
  • Completion of relevant cost accounting coursework.
  • Experience with ERP accounting systems, particularly NetSuite, is highly desirable.
  • Exceptional communication skills.

Education:

A degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is required. Relevant experience may be considered in lieu of formal education on a year-for-year basis.

Physical Requirements:

The physical demands of this position require the employee to regularly use hands and fingers for typing and to sit for extended periods. Close visual acuity is necessary for tasks such as preparing and analyzing data, transcribing, and viewing computer screens.
