Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated Traffic Engineer to join our team at the Virginia Department of Transportation. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for assisting in the identification and development of projects to improve transportation system operations, safety, and capacity.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in the analysis and interpretation of engineering data and information.
  • Plan, schedule, and coordinate engineering program activities to ensure deliverables are met within the established scope and timeline.
  • Represent the department on various committees and work groups.
  • Manage projects and tasks, including development of scope, schedule, budget, deliverables, change management, quality, and status reports.
  • Conduct complex traffic signal studies and modifications, roadway and pedestrian safety and capacity analyses, speed studies, and other special studies in accordance with traffic engineering principles.
Requirements
  • Experience designing plans for traffic control devices and incorporating traffic engineering requirements into roadway plans.
  • Experience collecting and analyzing traffic-related data.
  • Considerable experience gathering data, developing recommendations, and making presentations.
  • Extensive knowledge of traffic engineering principles, practices, and standards.
  • Skilled in the use of computers and software applications, including traffic engineering and design software.

  • A combination of training, experience, or education in Civil Engineering or a related field.
