About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Lead Traffic Engineer to join our team at WSP. As a key member of our Transportation Team, you will be responsible for leading projects and collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality results.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collect, compile, and analyze data from various sources to inform project development, design, and construction.
  • Conduct investigations and inspections of proposed and existing site conditions, roadways, intersections, signage, signals, pavement markings, lighting, ITS, and transportation corridors.
  • Develop technologies, monitoring devices, modeling techniques, design requirements, and operating strategies to ensure safety and functionality.
  • Verify site characteristics and provide technical assistance on engineering, design, and construction issues.
  • Write technical reports summarizing research findings and conclusions.
  • Collaborate with technical staff and project managers to identify and assess risks, and offer input and analysis on design concepts, construction, mitigation, and improvement activities.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or a closely related discipline.
  • 7-10 years of relevant post-education experience.
  • Engineer license required.
  • Proficient knowledge of traffic engineering design principles, practices, and processes.
  • Experience with traffic planning, design, and construction management, including traffic control, capacity, and operational analysis.
  • Highly familiar with relevant transportation construction laws, codes, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements.
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to exercise sound judgment in evaluating situations and making decisions.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Capable self-leadership with attention to detail, accuracy, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, as well as part of a team to meet business objectives.
  • Basic proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, technology, math principles, predictive models, spreadsheets, and tools.
  • Experience with discipline-specific design software.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP's health, safety, and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
