Job Summary

The University of South Alabama's department of Research Education and Training – College of Medicine is seeking a highly skilled and experienced professional to fill the role of Assistant Director, Office of Research Education and Training (ORET). This position will be responsible for the day-to-day administration of the Basic Medical Sciences (BMS) PhD program in the Whiddon College of Medicine.

Key Responsibilities
  • Program Administration: Oversee the daily operations of the BMS PhD program, ensuring seamless execution of academic and administrative tasks.
  • Student Support: Provide academic advising to BMS graduate students, including guidance on lab rotations, course selection, registration, academic standing, degree requirements, and career development.
  • Faculty and Staff Support: Collaborate with faculty and staff to develop and implement new initiatives to increase graduate student retention and success.
  • Admissions and Recruitment: Manage the admissions process, including reviewing applications, coordinating interviews, and communicating with applicants.
  • Course Scheduling and Management: Coordinate course scheduling for the BMS Graduate Program, ensuring timely and efficient delivery of academic content.
  • Postdoctoral Support: Provide support and training for postdoctoral fellows, including coordination of professional development opportunities and maintenance of postdoctoral records.
  • Budget Management: Oversee the ORET budget, ensuring effective financial management and resource allocation.
  • Communication and Collaboration: Foster strong relationships with students, faculty, staff, and relevant University offices to ensure effective communication and collaboration.
Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in a related field from an accredited institution, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience: Three years of related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Skills: Strong organizational and communication skills, ability to work independently and as part of a team, and proficiency in relevant software applications.
