South Windsor Public Schools is looking for a dedicated individual to fill the role of Community Engagement and School Environment Coordinator at South Windsor High School. The ideal candidate will collaborate with school and district leadership to foster an inclusive school atmosphere and develop impactful initiatives aimed at enhancing family involvement within the educational framework. This position reports directly to the building administrators and the Director of Equity and Inclusion.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Advocate for appreciation and awareness of diverse ethnic, cultural, and linguistic backgrounds.
  • Design, organize, and execute family engagement initiatives and service workshops.
  • Encourage and facilitate parent and community volunteer participation.
  • Support marginalized students and families to ensure they receive ongoing assistance in achieving their educational aspirations.
  • Maintain effective communication with administration, educators, students, and families.
  • Collaborate proactively with school staff and administrators to nurture a welcoming school environment.
  • Identify resources that connect families to support student learning, behavior, and attendance.
  • Develop and implement strategies to enhance student attendance, including:
    • Engaging in school-based attendance teams;
    • Working with families to identify and address barriers to consistent attendance;
    • Organizing workshops highlighting the significance of attendance;
    • Partnering with school personnel to provide necessary support and interventions for students with chronic absenteeism.
  • Facilitate communication between the school and families regarding student progress, school-wide objectives, and available support.
  • Create individualized student success plans.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in education, child development, social work, or a related discipline (preferred).
  • Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively with school staff, students, parents, and community partners.
  • Exceptional organizational and problem-solving skills, along with outstanding communication abilities (both oral and written).
  • Capability to design programs, implement policies, and establish priorities.
  • Experience handling confidential and sensitive information.
  • Ability to prioritize daily responsibilities and meet deadlines.
Work Year: The work year will consist of 210 days, including all student days and professional development days. The remaining days will be scheduled collaboratively between the building principal, the Director of Equity and Inclusion, and the Community Engagement and School Environment Coordinator.
