Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated individual to join our team as an Exceptional Child Assistant. This role will provide support to teachers in working with students with exceptional needs, ensuring they have access to general education and achieve their Individual Education Program (IEP) goals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist teachers in the instruction of individual students or groups of students with exceptional needs in all curricular areas.
  • Collect and document data to track student progress on IEP goals.
  • Collaborate with teachers to develop instructional strategies and plans.
  • Operate and maintain equipment and materials for both classroom and individual students.
  • Supervise students during emergency drills, assemblies, and other designated activities.
  • Act as a bus monitor for students with special needs.
  • Alert teachers to any issues or concerns related to individual students.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge.
  • Assist with administrative tasks, such as record keeping and ordering materials.
  • Provide physical assistance to students as needed, including self-help, clothing, toileting, and mobility support.
  • Assist therapists and teachers with duties related to occupational and physical therapy and mainstreaming classes.

Requirements:

  • Associate's degree or equivalent experience.
  • Ability to work with students with exceptional needs and provide individualized support.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.
